The derby will grow from year to year starting at just 2 miles long—mostly on pavement, but also including possible trips through mud and sand with future years requiring entrants to conquer hills and water features.

Kinetic Sculptures are human powered works of art custom built for the derby. They can be up to 35 feet in length, 9 feet wide, 10 feet tall, and powered by from as few as 2 team mates to a maximum of 12.

Fallen Heroes 5k

Fallen Heroes 5k

The Fallen Heroes 5K was a race started 11 years ago to memorialize those heroes who gave their lives for this country and in honor of two of UF’s fallen heroes, Navy SEAL James Suh, and Naval Special Warfare Officer Thomas Fouke. Both were UF alumni and died while serving their country.

Our goal is to support veterans and their families who need help financially. They have given their all for us, risking their lives at the cost of our freedom, running this race is the least we can do in honor of them. Money raised will be donated to the Gainesville Fisher House and the UDT-Seal Association.

Go Navy, Go Gators.

Race notes: Race day registration will close at 8:15 AM and the race will begin at 8:30 AM. Awards will begin shortly after a majority of the participants have completed the race.

Five Points of Life Presents: Race Weekend 2018

Run for a great cause at the 13th Annual Five Points of Life Race Weekend on February 17 & 18, 2018 in scenic Gainesville, Florida!

The marathon course is a Boston Marathon qualifier and USATF certified, and starts in front of the University of Florida Center for Performing Arts and weaves through Gainesville’s most popular running areas. The route takes you past the iconic 34th Street Wall where thousands of UF students and Gainesville residents have commemorated important events in their lives and in the community. You’ll be challenged by the historic hills of 16th Avenue, a popular training route of Frank Shorter who won the 1972 Olympic gold medal in the marathon, and will enjoy Gainesville’s beautiful Duck Pond and downtown areas.

On the first half you’ll also pass through Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, home to the 2008 National Championship Florida Gators, and may see some real gators sunning themselves on the shores of Lake Alice. After the split, marathoners will continue a route that leads runners through the revitalized Depot Park, out and back the Hawthorne Trail, with shaded segments, and finishing back through campus, running through the Swamp and around Lake Alice a second time before the finish. A festive post race party welcomes you to the finish line and you’ll enjoy pizza, refreshments, live entertainment and awards.

All proceeds from the weekend benefit the Five Points of Life Foundation, who raises awareness for the five ways to share life through the donation of blood, apheresis, marrow, organ/tissue and cord blood.

1st Annual Pup Ruck 5K Run/Walk

REGISTER TODAY TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT IN THE RACE!

Join Pets and Patriots Foundation for the First Annual Pup Ruck 5K Run/Walk presented by Relliable Painting and Lawful Defense on Sunday, November 12th from 1PM til 4PM at Depot Park in Gainesville, FL!

By joining the Pup Ruck, you are helping Pets and Patriots Foundation fulfill its mission to serve and support the veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) living in North Central Florida by providing qualified dogs and/or service dog training to them and their dog - thereby improving the quality of life for the veteran and family.

Through your participation and generous fundraising efforts, Pets and Patriots Foundation is able to provide specially trained service dogs to veterans battling PTSD. With your help, we can continue to provide this much needed treatment option to veterans, giving them hope for a better tomorrow.

The Pup Ruck is open to all skill levels and families. You are encouraged to compete with a rucksack to show support of veterans battling PTSD. (A rucksack is a military-style backpack, usually weighing around 50 pounds, used in military operations.) If you don't have a rucksack, please bring your dog and compete with your best buddy. The 5K race is a run/walk at your pace in the Town of Tioga, beginning at Fluid Lounge and World of Beer.

Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fastest race times provided by Alter Ego Fitness! Show your patriotism by competing in the Most Patriotic Contest for individuals and families! Dogs can show off in the Biggest Dog and Smallest Dog contests!

Thank you to each of our sponsors for giving so generously to help make this event a success! Thank you to Blu Dove Designs for developing this event and all materials to help provide specialized service dogs to veterans with PTSD. We greatly appreciate all of our business and community partners!
