Depot Family Drum Circle

Can you shake, shimmy, drum, or strum? Join us on the 1st Saturday of every month for a family-friendly drum circle on top of The Hill, approx 2 hours before sunset.

Bring your shakers, bells, whistles, guitars, horns, banjos, anything that makes a sound. We will have a few hand drums, tambourines, and triangles to share, too. 

Dancers and hula-hoopers highly encouraged to join in the fun!

This event is FREE and open to the public.
All ages and leashed pets are welcome too.

Family Friendly Bike Ride

Join the Gainesville Cycling Club for our monthly Family Friendly Ride from Depot Park down the Gainesville Hawthorne Trail to the Lake Alachua Overlook for a 9 mile round trip. A shorter option is to ride to the Sweetwater Overlook, which is a 6 mile round trip. Parents and helmets required. Tag-alongs and bike trailers welcome, but no training wheels. We will meet at the far end of the Depot Park parking lot. Don't forget your water bottles!

Ideal for children ages 3-8, but caregivers know best. Caregivers must remain with the children and are encouraged to participate.

This class will blend the teachings and values of traditional yoga (breath work, mindfulness, postures, self-awareness) with games, activities, music, dancing, laughter and lots of fun! 

A growing body of scientific research continues to demonstrate the effectiveness of in yoga in improving focus, memory, self-esteem, academic performance, and even classroom behavior in children. 

Bring a yoga mat and water.

Menagerie In Motion Kinetic Derby 2019

Each Spring, the Active Streets Alliance will host with partners the southeast’s only kinetic sculpture derby highlighting areas of cultural and natural beauty in Alachua County. The derby will grow from year to year starting at just 2 miles long—mostly on pavement, but also including possible trips through mud and sand with future years including optional water features.

Kinetic Sculptures are human powered works of art custom built for the derby. They can be up to 35 feet in length, 9 feet wide, 9 feet tall, and powered by from as few as 2 team mates to a maximum of 12.

Birds and Brews - Guided Bird Walk

First Magnitude Brewing Company  is teaming up with the Alachua Audubon Society to host monthly bird walks!

We will meet the first Sunday of each month at in front of the metal Maggie sign by the entrance to The Source. The group, led by volunteers from the Alachua Audubon society will head for Depot park. Once at Depot, there will be an hour long guided tour identifying all of our lovely aerial pals!

The tour then returns to the brewery, giving you plenty of time to have a nighthawk...er...nightcap!

The Audubon Society will provide some binoculars and bird guides, but feel free to bring any other equipment you wish!

The Category 5K is a new and exciting race being held in Gainesville, FL. All proceeds from the Category 5K will go to public schools affected by Hurricane Michael in the Florida panhandle. This family-friendly event will be run by Gainesville High School's Student Government. In addition to the race, there will be other fun activities including games, food, hot chocolate, and more! We hope to see you at Depot Park on January 27, 2019 to support our fellow Floridians.

Third Annual Longest Table

Join the conversation at Gainesville's Third Annual Longest Table! The Longest Table is all about engaging with your community - your neighbors, your peers and new friends - to build and strengthen relationships in our community.

On Jan. 26, enjoy dinner and dialogue designed to strengthen relationships and unite our community as we all work together to enhance the quality of life in Gainesville and Alachua County. We will be featuring a movie after, beginning at 6 PM, in the park, so make a day of it and enjoy a movie after!

Each attendee is encouraged to bring at least one non-perishable food item to this event and help us Stuff the Bus! They will be donated to the local food bank, Bread of the Mighty.
